Photography Costs

I've been asked here and there about why custom photography seems to cost so much more than in-store studios like JCPenney, Sears, or Wal-Mart.

To address this question, I've come across a great article that I suggest anyone who's ever wondered about this issue to read.  It's a little on the lengthy side, but incredibly informative!

Why Does Custom Photography Cost More?

Overall my opinion is that the two just can't be compared as they offer so very different experiences.  While I understand that a personal, custom photo session may end up costing more than the in-store studios.... I promise, it's more than worth it! :)

Weddings

I love weddings - I really do.  I am so fortunate that I get to be a part of so many couple's special moments.  I love to watch the groom's reaction as his bride walks down the aisle.  I get goosebumps..... every. single. time.   and I'm sure I always will.  I have so much fun as I watch everyone relax, have fun and dance their faces off. It never gets old!!

Thank you to all the special couples that have allowed me to take part in one of the biggest days of your lives -
and I hope I get to do this for the rest of my life!

Sometimes our kids have fur...

I'm a huge animal lover, always have been.  I grew up always having a dog in the house - we had a beautiful German Shephard named Heidi when I was a toddler.  After she passed, we brought home a Shetland Sheepdog puppy, that my mom named Ruffy... and never looked back. (I also finally convinced my parents to let me have a cat, a loving shorthair we adopted from the Humane Society when I was 10.. I still miss him to this day.) We had Ruffy for 11 wonderful years, along with our cat, Rascal... and finally had to say goodbye to them both when their times came.  To say it was hard is quite an understatement.  We decided it was time to share our love with another canine, and adopted Kirby.. then a year later came Connor, both Shelties.  I can't recommend Shelties enough for ANYONE! They are sweet, loving, obedient, and all-around wonderful family dogs.

This love for Shelties obvioulsy rubbed off on my sister and I - now that we are both married with homes of our own, we each have a Sheltie of our own as well.  My husband and I named ours Tommy.  We also have a domestic shorthair cat (Twitch, named for her tail that spasms when she gets excited!) that Tommy *LOVES* playing and snuggling with - our house would be so boring without them!

Needless to say, Tommy and Twitch are definitely my 'kids', and I LOVE having family pet sessions - they are so much fun! I don't care what anyone says, they're a part of your family, so why not cherish the memories with professional photos? :)

(Here's a sweet shot from this weekend.)

the beginning of an unbelievable journey

I've always wanted to be a photographer.  Whenever someone asked me what I wanted to do after high school, I said "ideally? I'd be a photographer."  A lot of people I said this to discouraged it, though.  They said "That's not a career, that's a hobby."  Unfortunately, I buried my dream and believed that, yes, it was just a hobby.  I could never make it into a career... could I?

I meandered through college switching majors a few times, but couldn't seem to find my niche.  In the back of my mind and in the depths of my heart lurked my dream to become a photographer.  It never died.

Then I started dating my husband, Paul.  He inspired me so much.  I remember shortly after we were married, as we sat at the dinner table discussing our future, he said "why don't you start your photography business? that's your dream, isn't it?"  I didn't know what to say.  It was, after all, my dream.  I'd never had someone so whole-heartedly support my dream before.

And that was that. I switched from X-Ray school to the multimedia design program and I saved for quite some time for my first camera and lenses.  Then I began down the path that has led me to where I am today.  I am so thankful to the Lord for not only bringing my best friend and soul mate into my life when I needed him most, but also for the fact that He has opened so many doors for my dream to become my reality.

There aren't many people that can honestly say they love their jobs.  I'm so happy to be able to say that I really love every minute of the work that I do.
